Mark Fargo has only been on the road for five years, skipping the inevitable problems with dealing with youth, speed and poor choices.
Now at sixty-five years old and over a hundred thousand miles, with a lot of life experiences behind him, he sees being on the road every day as a blessing. His photographs reflect the challenges and beauty of his daily travels in a very simple way and his Haiku matches them like the last piece of a puzzle. His observations make following him enjoyable and makes you feel like you’ve been there or want to go. Mark Fargo is the author of four books with a fifth book, The Art of Motorcycle Haiku, coming out in February, 2019.
When I decided to explore America on two wheels, at 60 years old, on a 650 cc scooter with no fairings (protected human and motorcycle body additions), metal crash bars and metal panniers and camping gear, most of my friends questioned why I was choosing to ride in today’s accelerated highway atmosphere that is actually becoming one big massive NASCAR race track. The speeds have exponentially gotten to the point where 70 miles per hour in any lane is considered obstructive and rude. Others questioned my mental state of mind. I’ve never been more mentally free in my life. Motorcycling saved me from myself and saved my relationship. I don’t to ponder much about crashing or dying, I know the risks. I’m always searching for a slow and go two lane pavement companion.
